THE RESERVe
THE DETAILS
The Reserve is a residential condominium project in Church Hill. The scope of the work included an adaptive reuse of an existing historic warehouse and a new infill building on an adjacent lot. The site is located at the topographical transition between Church Hill and Shockoe Bottom, as seen in the twenty-eight foot slope across the property. It is also bridges the architectural transition between turn-of-the-century residential row houses on the hill and larger scale historic warehouses below.
The new construction was designed using historic and contextual references from the surrounding neighborhood. The curved roofs respond to the hillside and step down the slope. Where the building recedes from the street and on the rear, a contemporary treatment with high-tech finishes is employed. The units at the south side of the site have impressive views toward the river or Downtown. The units on the north side of the site are nestled into the neighborhood.
