The Daily
The details
The Daily Kitchen is the outstandingly popular restaurant in a mixed-use building that was more than a year in planning. A luxurious apartment has brought second floor occupancy back the first time in nearly 80 years.
The former Glass & Powder Board Shop occupied the first floor in what had been, prior to 1935, two town houses. In about 1935, the building was altered, creating a street front addition, joining the two first floor spaces, severing and abandoning the houses’ second floors.
The building owners, the Richmond Restaurant Group’s Jared Golden, Michelle Williams, and Ted Waldrop, accepted the challenge to revitalize this property into a pedestrian-engaging corner of Carytown. The owners worked arduously with their architects, Johannas Design Group, their interior designer, HL Reed Design, and Dominion Construction Partners to create sidewalk patio dining by removing the old front addition, and to create street-front access to a new, second floor apartment.
The restaurant creates a welcoming transparency from the sidewalk to the interior through the transition from the patio to the entry. The interior materials and natural lighting enhance the health-conscious, epicurean menu.
The 6300 square foot restaurant seats more than 200 people with about 30 seats on the patio. The 1360 square foot second floor apartment has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a 45 foot long great room overlooking Cary Street.
